THE FOSSIL PROJECT: SCHEDULE OF EVENTS

The Fossil Project is about building connections in the paleontological

and meet some new folks at the dinner on Sunday and the meeting

on Monday!

Sunday, October 11:

Optional Welcoming Dinner (everyone is encouraged to attend and

meet our guests, but folks are responsible for own bill)

Where – Terrace Bar & Grill (in the lobby of the DoubleTree hotel

near Brookhaven College at 4099 Valley View Lane)

Time – 7:00 pm

Monday, October 12:

Mini-Conference Day 1

12:00pm – Introductions & Mixer (light lunch provided)

1:00pm – Fossil Legislation/Regulation Townhall Discussion

with Scott Foss (Bureau of Land Management Senior Paleontologist),

Cynthia Crane (Director of the Aurora Fossil Museum), and Linda

McCall (President, North Carolina Fossil Club)

2:30pm - Break

2:35pm – National Fossil Day presentation by Vincent

Santucci (National Park Service Senior Geologist/Paleontologist)

3:30pm – Reveal of the new myFOSSIL web portal

4:00pm – Breakout Topical Sessions

a. ‘Best Uses of Social Media for Fossil Organizations’ (led by Lisa Lundgren)

b. ‘Your Personal Fossil Collection: What’s Next?’ (co-led by Bruce MacFadden, Eleanor Gardner, & Cynthia Crane)


c. ‘Education & Outreach’ – includes K12, Scouts, 4H, etc. (led by Dr. Chris Strganac, with help from Sean Moran)

d. ‘Citizen Science in Paleontology’ (led by Dr. Louis Jacobs)

5:10pm – Report on Breakout Session Conversations

6:00pm – Dinner on your own

7:00pm – Reconvene before DPS monthly meeting

7:30pm – “Feathered Dinosaurs” lecture by Dr. Paul Sereno

(professor, University of Chicago)

9:30pm – Adjourn for the evening

The DPS is a group of professional and amateur paleontologists that want to exchange information, interact, and continue their education in paleontology.  We meet once a month on the second Wednesday evening of the month at Brookhaven College, Building H.
