Presides at monthly meetings and special functions.
Arranges Executive Committee meetings and sets agenda.
Maintains an inventory list of DPS property.
Ensures spending fits within fiscal ability of the Society.
Arranges annual calendar.
Communicates to executive committee members about upcoming meetings.
Signs all documents which the Executive Committee has authorized.
Shall automatically serve as a member of the Advisory board for a period of two 2 years following the last term of office.
VICE-PRESIDENT
Presides over Society functions in the absence of the President or in the event of the Presidents inability to perform the duties of the office, the Vice-President shall assume the duties of the President.
Responsible for Society public relations.
Promotes the Charles Finsley Lecture Series.
Promotes Fossilmania.
SECRETARY
Record and publish minutes from Society meetings.
Maintain supply of Society stationery.
Write thank you letters and other official letters.
Maintain complete set of minutes.
TREASURER
Prepare annual corporate exhibits, reports, and tax returns required by the Federal and local governments and pay yearly sales tax by January 20.
Arrange for an annual audit and assist in the preparation of the annual budget.
Pay Museum of Science and Nature (MNS) meeting room annual use fee.
Keep Society's financial books in order.
Provide monthly and yearly summaries of income and expenses.
Collected dues, and income from promotions and make deposits. Forward membership forms to Chair.
Reimburse persons for expenses for the Society.
EDITOR
Publish monthly newsletter - The Fossil Record.
Solicit newsletter articles from members.
Each newsletter contains:
A write-up of the current month's program.
A calendar of the following month's activities.
One page with officers and committee chair contact information.
Announcements of society business.
Publish appropriate press releases from Museum of Science and Nature (MNS).
Distribute the newsletter via electronic and print copies and ensure mailing of newsletter.
Who we are
The DPS is a group of professional and amateur paleontologists that want to exchange information, interact, and continue their education in paleontology. We meet once a month on the second Wednesday evening of the month at Brookhaven College, Building H.
