Saturday, April 23

Meet at McDonalds in Brownwood @ 9:00.

We will then travel to near Lake Brownwood to get some coral specimens.

We will then travel to Wilson's Clay Pit for the remainder of the day.

Sunday, April 24

Meet at McDonalds in Brownwood @ 9:00.

We will visit an interesting Permian site on a private ranch about 45 miles west of Brownwood.  Plan to have lunch at the small lake there and experience a bit of ranch adventure.

From there we travel about 30 minutes to Lake San Tana.

Time permitting, those interested can go to the large Pennsylvanian road cut 20 miles south of Brownwood. It appears to have been hunted pretty hard recently, but there are still plenty of specimens there.

NOTE:  THE LAKE BROWNWOOD SPILLWAY SITE IS NOT RECOMMENDED

ALSO, THIS IS PRIME RATTLESNAKE COUNTRY AND PRIME RATTLESNAKE

TIME.  BE CAREFUL. MAKE NOISE AND NEVER REACH OR WALK WHERE

YOU HAVE NOT LOOKED VERY CAREFULLY.

Lake Brownwod State Park has good camping, and there are several hotels in Brownwood.

Accommodations:

Camping is available at Lake Brownwood State Park and Brownwood has numerous hotels/motels.  If you plan on camping please let me know and I will try to reserve adjacent  sites so we can enjoy a campfire evening together.

Brownwood Spillway:

We will not be hunting the Spillway.  Both Dr. Neece and I, as DPS’ representative, have judged it to be dangerous.  If you wish to hunt there you will  have to make your own arrangements.  You must apply at the Lake patrol office for a permit to do so.  No one under 18 yrs. is allowed.
