Pit Crew Adventure, October (finally)

Sincere apologies that it has taken this long to get this out. This trip has been a tricky one. As I mentioned before, we will be hunting fossils in Glen Rose, Texas. One of our DPS members, Doug Smith, has agreed to let us hunt on his family land, but he has been living in Ohio for the last handful of years. He had planned to move back by the week that just passed, but delays happened and he will not be back home until October 24. He assures me that he is still a go for the visit, even with he movers dropping his things off on the 27th. What dedication! He is very excited to share the day with our kids and will take us to some spots where he knows we will find some fossils. He also has some dinosaur tracks in the creek on the land. I know that I mentioned trying to cast the tracks, but we are going to postpone that activity for now. With his late arrival, and the uncertainty of the condition of the creek bed, I feel that we can leave it for a spring trip. He is happy to have us return another time with the intent of casting the tracks, so no rush. That isn't to say that we won't be seeing some dinosaur tracks this trip. Tom Dill, our DPS President has arranged for us to visit the Dinosaur Valley State Park and view the track ways there.

Our timeline looks like this:

9:30 am meet at the David's Supermarket at 205 Austin Road, Glen Rose Texas 76043

9:45 am caravan to the land to arrive about 10:00 am

10:00 am we meet Doug and proceed to explore the land and hunt fossils. He said there is a walk to reach the creek, maybe 15 to 20 minutes, so we will plan for 30 minutes walk to the creek. Wear comfortable shoes and bring water. Bring pails, or sturdy bags to collect your fossils, and remember we have to hike in, and hike out, so we are carrying our finds out. A back pack or shoulder bag will distribute the weight better and be easier to carry than a pail.

12:30 pm we will hike back to Doug's house.

1:00 pm we can share and identify our finds, and have lunch or snack if you bring one.

1:30 pm Wrap up, thank our host and head to Dinosaur Valley State Park to see dinosaur tracks with Tom Dill.

2:00 pm Dinosaur Valley State Park with Tom Dill

I'd love a quick RSVP so that I know who to expect and can be looking for you at arrival.
