Registration is closed

The Dallas Paleontological Society will be hosting a field trip to Fossil Ridge Ranch in Cooke County, TX on June 12, 2022 from 8:45 AM to 1:00 PM.

Registration will begin June 4, just after Friday night, June 3 at midnight.

We will be meeting at the Valley View town square near

103 N Lee St,

Valley View, TX 76272

We will leave from there at 9:00 and driver to the ranch.

Children are welcome, but we ask that you keep them close to you and don't let them climb on the banks. Be aware that avalanches are possible.

This site is in the Duck Creek formation. As such the fauna present are predominantly Eopachydiscus marcianus with a few Mortoniceras ammonites and the occasional Idiohamites fragment. There is also the rare shark vertebra or Ichthyosaur bones. There may also be a very rare heteromorph ammonite that has not been fully described. If you find one of these or a fragment of one please consider donating it for study so that it can be described.

We request that each family or if only a single member that you please only take one large Eopachydiscus ammonite over 14 inches or above so that there will be enough to go around and so that there will be some the next time we visit. Collect whatever else you wish, but limit the large Eopachydiscus to only one.

If you have attended at least 2 members only field trips in 2022 we ask that you consider letting other members register instead. There have been a number of members who have been on just about every field trip this year. Many other members have attempted to register for field trips, but they have been put on the wait list each time and have not been able to attend a single trip as a result of the limited availability.

This field trip is limited to 30 Dallas Paleontological Society Members Only.

Kim Pervis and Bob Williams will be leading the field trip.
