2024 Fossil Day at Ladonia Fossil Park

North Sulphur River

October 19, 2024

The smallest town and best National Fossil Day event in America! All free (unless you want to buy a fresh gilled burger or a book). All enthusiastic volunteers. All Outdoors (check the weather). Even some porta-potties will be brought in. Come see some spectacular North Sulphur River fossil displays that you can touch and handle. Relax and ask all the questions you wish to local, knowledgeable, experienced NSR river rats. Go hike and hunt the North Sulphur River for yourself (weather and river conditions permitting). Plenty of fossil giveaways for every kid. Late Cretaceous, Ozan Formation (roughly 75 million years ago) marine reptiles (mosasaurs), a menagerie of bony fish, shark teeth, sea turtles, ammonites, baculites, gastropods and more. Just seeing the real fossil displays from active amateurs like you will be worth the trip. So cool! No timetable, schedule or speeches. Show up between 9am and 3pm on Saturday, October 19 at the Ladonia, Tx fossil park (northeast corner of the FM 2990 bridge) and we will be there to enjoy the day with you. Bring some cash to buy a burger, hot dog, drinks or snacks, or a North Sulphur River Guidebook (wifi, cellphones and credit cards do not generally work out here). Have fun! Learn something fun. And learn to have even more science and exploration fun on your own. PLEASE NOTE that the 2990 bridge is already being torn down to make way for the lake. You can no longer cross the river to the fossil park coming from south of Ladonia. If you are driving in from the south, continue on 34 through Ladonia and across the river, turn east on FM 1550, then turn south on FM 2990 to reach the fossil park from the north side of the river.
