Regular Monthly Meeting for July

  • 6:30 PM - 9:00 PM
  • Brookhaven College, Dallas

Triassic Texas

DPS will meet Wednesday, July 9th, at 7PM Central time, in the Ellison Miles Building (Bldg H) at Brookhaven Campus of Dallas College, 3939 Valley View Lane, Farmers Branch.  Ryan Price, paleontologist at the Houston Museum of Natural Science, will speak about “Texas in the Late Triassic: Humble Beginnings for the Lone Star State”.  His talk will give an overview of what Texas and the fauna was like in the Late Triassic, based upon some excellent outcrops and quarries in west Texas, New Mexico, and Arizona.  This was a time of great change at the cusp of the age of dinosaurs.

Ryan Price grew up in Houston, and then worked in science education for the Cypress Fairbanks school district.  He moved to Tucumcari, New Mexico to earn an Associates of Arts degree in Natural Science and Paleontology, and to work at the Mesalands Dinosaur Museum.  He moved back to Houston to work as conservation educator at the Houston Zoo and earn a BS degree in Petroleum Geotechnology from the University of Houston.  Since 2022 he has worked in the fossil preparation lab at the Houston Museum of Natural Science.

DPS meetings are open to the public and free.  Members can bring snacks and food to share, and the society provides water or sodas.  Everyone can bring fossils, especially those in need of identification.  We will stream the meeting on Zoom at: https://us06web.zoom.us/j/86260713935 (Meeting ID: 862 6071 3935 and Passcode: 606428).
